Visit by Wallenius and Kockums

An interesting joint meeting with the shipping company Wallenius, the shipyard SAAB (Kockums) and the SustainTrans team was held the 22nd of January. Firstly, Prof. Göran Broman presented our department and specifically our research, Dr. Henrik Ny about the SustainTrans team and ways forward, and finally Sven Borén about his research with a focus on sustainability and electric vehicles and briefly how the shipping sector relates to a strategic sustainable development.

The president of Wallenius Marine Johan Mattsson then presented about and how Wallenius are approaching sustainability, and some interesting ideas about possible future sustainable solutions.

Moving on to the shipyard, Vice President Hans Wicklander presented about the SAAB group and within that naval solutions at Kockums. Roger Berg, Head of research and development at Kockums, then presented about the background and research related projects at Kockums, and also briefly about possible collaborations. Deputy head of production Fredrik Jungqvist then presented about the history of Kockums and about today’s production that is mostly focusing on maintenance and refurbishment of naval surface vessels and how the new A26 submarines are constructed at the shipyard. Fredrik then showed the on-site submarine production facilities.

The SustainTrans team would like to thank Wallenius and Kockums for visiting BTH and the hospitality of Kockums to show their facilities in Karlskrona, as well as taking their time to discuss possibilities for future collaborations.
