ONGOING ACTIVITIES IN THE HINTS LABORATORY
The last few weeks have been busy times in the HINTS laboratory. In addition to visits from the Teknikåttan today, a competition between regional schools, we are running user studies for a few weeks together with Spotify as part of the HINTS project. We also have PhD students and Master of Science in Engineering: Game Engineering students working in the lab with their thesis projects, the later also involving an ongoing user study. Tomorrow we will host an eye tracking lab for a course on Human Factors in Software Engineering in the HINTS lab, allowing students to get more practical experience with eye tracking technology and some corresponding visualisation techniques. After this additional experiments are in the planned pipeline for HINTS.
TEKNIKÅTTAN AT BTH AND THE HINTS LABORATORY
Today we had a visit from 8th grade pupils from Kallingeskolan and Nättrabyskolan in the Human-Centered Intelligent Realities Laboratory. The visitors got to hear a little about the HINTS project and ongoing research. The participants also tested some augmented reality (AR) digital cultural heritage applications and virtual reality (VR) demos for healthcare (from our external industry partner Virotea). Thanks to Mikael Åsman at BTH for the organisation of the event!
RECENT PROMOTIONS FOR HINTS STAFF
Today we congratulate Yan Hu for being promoted to Associate Professor in Computer Science after her successful Docent lecture at BTH.
TRIAL LECTURE FOR APPOINTMENT AS DOCENT
Yan Hu at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), will give a trial lecture for an appointment as docent on 2nd April 2025.
Title of the lecture: Novel Quality of User Experience Assessment Methodologies for Virtual Realities
Subject area: Computer Science
Date and time: 2nd of April 2025 at 13:15
Room: J1630, BTH, Campus Karlskrona.
Zoom: https://bth.zoom.us/j/64961255943

Abstract
With the rapid development of immersive technologies, Virtual Reality (VR) has been applied across various fields. Assessing the quality of user experience (QUX) in VR is crucial for developing engaging, efficient, and user-centered applications that meet the users’ needs and preferences. This lecture will present various methodologies for measuring and evaluating VR applications, emphasizing both the technical quality of experience (QoE) of the VR systems and the overall user experience (UX), from controlled subjective tests to user studies. The goal is to explore human behavior and intent, addressing challenges in immersive computing through a human-centered perspective. Finally, I will share future human-computer interaction research directions in intelligent realities.
